Kuki’o Beach Club & Spa

North Kona Coast, Hawai’i
As Hawaiian culture stems from the migrating peoples of Polynesia, the 39,000 SF Kukio Beach Club and Spa offers a continuation of island architecture. Separate thatched-roof pavilions organize club functions reminiscent of an ancient coastal village on the Big Island of Hawaii. Connected by gardens and terraces, the separate pavilions situate alongside the beach, an historic ancient Hawaiian settlement and Anchialine ponds.
Aligned with Haleakala on Maui, the Clubhouse, the first building encountered sets the tone. The heroic scale of the lobby complements the power and presence of the site. An even more relaxed environment was designed for the seaside restaurant and bar. Overlooking historic anchialine ponds, the Spa pavilions and pools form a separate part of the village. Handcrafted natural materials create an atmosphere of island rusticity connecting the club member to nature, to the land, and to island and ocean views.
